Donald Trump's Framework of Retribution and Reward

Trump's insatiable urge for payback has swiftly morphed into a structured apparatus. During the year since his election, the leader's anger and whims have adopted the shape of government actions in a manner reminiscent to historical authoritarian governments. Government officials who resist his demands are summarily fired and substituted by supporters. Opposing officials who question him face legal action, court proceedings and penalties. Opponents have been labeled under administration directives as “unpatriotic”, “against faith communities” and “anti-capitalist”, and warned with legal action as “terrorists”.

The Justice System Transformed

All situation involving legal action of critics and immunity for supporters displays its own unique features. But, despite their specific form, they exemplify examples of what has developed as a calculated technique. Such events are far from coincidental. His removal of DoJ attorneys and FBI agents, coupled with his appointment of supporters in key posts, began rapidly, quickly developed a consistency, and has now been shaped into a regime. The justice department and the FBI have been transformed into political agencies under Trump's explicit direction to carry out his wishes. Unfairness has been rendered routine. It constitutes the apparatus of revenge.

Administration is more concerned with punishing the President's perceived opponents than they are with protecting our public welfare.

Inside the Apparatus

The foundation of this system has been uncovered in the court filing of multiple ex- senior Federal Bureau agents filed in September in the federal court in DC against top official Kash Patel and attorney general another official for wrongful dismissal in “a effort of payback against Plaintiffs for what administration figures deemed to be a failure to exhibit proper allegiance”. In the complaint that Brian Driscoll, the previous temporary head, recounts a discussion in which the director “openly acknowledged the unlawfulness of his actions”.

He had attempted to defend law enforcement officers from being dismissed, the complaint claims. The director informed him that “they” – interpreted by him to be the presidential administration and DoJ – had directed him to remove anyone who they considered as having been involved in a criminal investigation against the president. The document adds: “He explained that he had to fire the personnel his superiors told him to fire, because his chance to retain his own position was contingent on the removal of the agents who were involved in matters involving the President. Patel commented that there was no option he or the official could do to stop these or any other dismissals, because ‘the agency attempted to incarcerate the President in prison and he remembers.’” Once Driscoll informed the director he was disregarding the FBI's own regulations, Patel reportedly said “he knew that and he knew the character of the immediate dismissals were almost certainly improper”.

Broad Effects

After the director's claimed confession to the official, the Department of Justice and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and redirected for the administration's retribution system. Several of the bureau's high-ranking agents were terminated or forced out in the initial period of the administration. Approximately 4,500 lawyers at the department have agreed to a “early exit scheme”. A minimum of several government attorneys, among them those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in objection over what they considered as political interference in withdrawing the criminal prosecution against the local official, the mayor, in return for his collaboration with Trump's federal agency detentions of foreign nationals. The ethics division of the department, which manages corruption cases, has been diminished to a handful of lawyers. The rights protection unit has been decimated: 70% of its employees has departed. 33% of executives at the department have resigned. The section implementing environmental law has experienced the exit of half its management.

Incentives and Penalties

In the mayor's situation, the interim prosecutor for the NY office, she, resigned in protest against what she characterized as the “exchange”. Tom Homan, Trump's “enforcement chief,” appeared as the implementer with the mayor on Fox News to state: “Unless he complies, I'll reappear in the city.”. And, another figure, earlier the justice department figure and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the arrangement, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a possible pathway to the highest court.

Trump's exemption for crimes carried out while in government, provided by the extraordinary judgment of the GOP-led on the judicial body, thus blocking his prosecution over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his public standing for the 2024 election, is the foundation stone on which he stands to protect his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been liberated to permit wrongdoing. The consequence of the court judgment permeates his government and the Republican Party thoroughly. Trump v United States has metastasized. Similar to a past leader's administration lawyer John Dean commented about the Watergate
